The Kyanjin Ri Trek is one of the most beautiful short treks in Nepal. It lies in the heart of the Langtang Valley and offers stunning mountain views, rich local culture, wildlife, forests, and a peaceful Himalayan experience.
This trek is perfect for trekkers who want big mountain views without a very long or technical journey. The main highlight is the hike from Kyanjin Gompa to Kyanjin Ri viewpoint, where you can see amazing sunrise views over the Himalayas.
The Kyanjin Ri Trek is in the Langtang region within the Langtang National Park. This protected area is known for its mountains, forests, wildlife, and traditional Tamang villages.
Kyanjin Ri is about 4,773 meters high and is one of the best viewpoints in the Langtang Valley. From the top, you can see glaciers, deep valleys, and many snow-covered peaks.
This trek is usually done as an extension of the Langtang Valley trek.
The most important part of the trek is the climb from Kyanjin Gompa to Kyanjin Ri. Kyanjin Gompa is a peaceful mountain village surrounded by stunning Himalayan peaks. From here, the trail becomes steep as it ascends toward Kyanjin Ri. The hike is challenging but rewarding, offering breathtaking panoramic views of snow-covered mountains, glaciers, and the Langtang Valley.
It usually takes 2–3 hours to go up and around 1.5–2 hours to come down. The climb is short but feels tough because of the altitude.
One of the highlights of this trek is the sunrise view from Kyanjin Ri. Trekkers usually start early in the morning to reach the viewpoint, as morning mountain views are often clear. One can fully enjoy the dramatic view of the mountains with the sunrise. As the sun rises, the surrounding peaks gradually change from deep blue to golden and pink shades. The Kyanjin Ri Trek is considered a moderate-level trek. It involves steady walking on varied terrain, including some steep uphill sections, especially during the hike to Kyanjin Ri viewpoint. While no technical climbing skills are required for Yala Peak and Tsergo Ri Peak, a reasonable level of fitness is needed to enjoy the trek comfortably.

Kyanjin Ri vs Tserko Ri are the two main viewpoints in Langtang Valley. Kyanjin Ri is shorter and easier, giving close-up views of Langtang Lirung and glaciers. Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Kathmandu at 1,400m to Syabrubesi at 1,550m. The road passes through river valleys, terraced hills, and traditional villages along the Trishuli River. Syabrubesi is a quiet riverside settlement and the main gateway to Langtang National Park. Overnight at a local lodge.

Trek begins along the Langtang Khola River, steadily climbing through dense forests of bamboo, oak, and rhododendron. The trail includes suspension bridges, waterfalls, and peaceful jungle sections. You reach Lama Hotel at 2,470m, a quiet forest stop surrounded by nature. Overnight at lodge.

The trail continues uphill with increasingly open valleys and panoramic mountain views. The landscape transitions into alpine terrain as you approach Langtang Valley. Langtang Village at 3,430m is a rebuilt Tamang settlement, rich in culture and Himalayan traditions. Overnight at lodge.

A short and scenic ascent through yak pastures and glacial valleys leads to Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870m. Surrounded by snow peaks and glaciers, this village is known for its monastery and traditional cheese factory. Overnight at lodge.

Early morning hike to Kyanjin Ri at 4,773m offers breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, and surrounding glaciers. This is the best viewpoint in the Langtang region. After enjoying sunrise, descend back to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m). Overnight at lodge.

A long descent retraces the trail through Langtang Village and forested river valleys. The changing perspective reveals different views of the Himalayas and lush landscapes. Reach Lama Hotel for overnight stay.

Final trekking day descends through dense forests, suspension bridges, and river trails. The walk is easier but long, finishing at Syabrubesi, the exit point of Langtang National Park. Overnight at lodge.

A scenic drive back to Kathmandu follows winding mountain roads, rivers, and rural settlements. Arrival in Kathmandu marks the end of the trek with unforgettable Himalayan memories.
